Lightspeed Systems, developer of innovative security software products for educational, government and business enterprises, today announced Total Traffic Control (TTC) v5.03.
The newest version of Lightspeed Systems's comprehensive security software prevents and eliminates known and unknown threats on the network, at the gateway and directly on the desktop. Enhancements make Total Traffic Control v5.03 one of the most complete and effective security software products available to meet internal enterprise standards and external regulatory requirements, including the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
"Total Traffic Control v5.03 delivers multiple layers of protection to secure the networking environment and document that security," said Rob McCarthy, President of Lightspeed Systems. "TTC v5.03 uses application program permissions in a way that overcomes the shortcomings of all leading antivirus and anti-spyware technology, and its Security Agent pushes protection to desktops."
TTC v5.03's core functionality includes content filtering, antispam, bandwidth management, reporting and security. TTC v5.03 incorporates a Security Agent, which augments virus signature matching with behavior analysis to identify and prevent malicious threats, adding a layer of protection to both server and desktop computing systems. TTC v5.03 includes a large categorized database of known desired and malicious programs. The Security Agent enables users to quickly classify any undesirable application as a known malicious program and distribute it to PCs on the network. This enables rapid and network-wide response to new ("zero-hour") attacks.
The key to the effectiveness of TTC v5.03's Security Agent is its application program permissions functionality. TTC v5.03 extends Microsoft's built-in security to enable programs, like users, to be granted permissions and restrictions. Program permissions enable users to ensure that * *known desired programs do only what they are supposed to do; guarantee that known malicious programs cannot run at all; and ensure that* *unknown programs are restricted to run in a "sandbox" so they cannot disrupt the network.
Other TTC v5.03 highlights include:
Four New Spam Blocking Techniques
Identify adult subjects even if subject line is using an alternate character set or base 64 encoding.
Automatically add a sender's IP address to the spam content category of the integrated content filter database if the majority of email from that address is spam.
Conduct a DNS query on known spam URLs and add the corresponding IP addresses to the spam category in the content filter database.
Check unknown URLs' IP addresses to determine whether they are from a spam-categorized IP address.
With the addition of these new techniques, Total Traffic Control v5.03, in testing and customer use involving tens of thousands of messages, accurately identified spam 99.997% of the time with just .002% false positives.
Additional Protection from Inappropriate Web Content: Search-results blocking
TTC v5.03 offers yet another layer of protection against inappropriate content: search results blocking by keyword.* *If a user enters any word in a search-engine query that has been configured to be blocked, the search will not run, and an "access-denied" page will display a message explaining that an inappropriate search was detected. The filter works in the 10 most popular search engines. This initial barrier can keep persistent seekers from finding an unknown web site deep down in search results.
In addition to Total Traffic Control's content filtering database, which blocks categories of sites at users' discretion, and search results blocking, TTC v5.03 has a number of additional layers to protect against accessing inappropriate content. These include blocking file transfers by file extension and forcing Google and Yahoo! SafeSearches.
Auto-Generated Reports Delivered by Email
The all-new administrative tool "scheduled reports" automatically generates and emails critical network and user reports as PDF attachments to any specified email address. In addition, network administrators can choose to automatically email a daily spam-mail-summary report so end users can retrieve any non-virus infected mail detected as spam.
"After researching the many different security tools available, we chose Lightspeed's Total Traffic Control v5.03 due to its superior results and tailored reporting functionality," said Lee Sleeper, Technology Director of Bullard Independent School District in Bullard, TX. "TTC v5.03 provides us with easy-to-use, very effective and reasonably priced security and network management that seamlessly enhances our existing Microsoft network."
