JNetDirect Incorporated, the expert software component company, announced the release of JDBTunnel 1.0, its latest Java component driver technology.
The new product is a JDBC driver that uses firewall tunneling to connect to JDBC-compatible databases using the HTTP protocol. JDBTunnel simplifies application deployment by eliminating the need to open a special firewall port for a client's database usage.
"While firewalls and other intrusion protection hardware can offer increased security, they also introduce new challenges for software developers," stated Doug Crane, CTO of JNetDirect, "By using JDBTunnel to connect to a database via the HTTP protocol through an existing firewall port (typically port 80), developers can take the administrative hassle out of deploying their application."
JDBTunnel is JDBC 2.0 compliant and highly-optimized for performance. It can run on top of an existing web or application server, or it can run in stand-alone mode. While port 80 is the most common firewall port used, it can be configured to use other ports if required.
"Developers need advanced components to ensure applications meet the increasing demands of enterprise computing," said Burke Cox, CEO. "At JNetDirect, we believe that components like JDBTunnel 1.0 are critical to provide enhanced features, faster application development and solve the challenges facing software developers today."
