McAfee announced the release of McAfee ProtectionPilot, a centralized management tool that helps small to medium businesses (SMBs) proactively deploy and manage their threat protection from a central location.

McAfee ProtectionPilot, which is available as part of the McAfee SMB Editions, now includes added support for the new, separately available, McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise -- offering SMBs an added layer of protection against potentially unwanted programs (PUPS), such as adware, spyware, dialers, keyloggers, cookies and remote-control programs.

The McAfee SMB Editions include McAfee Active VirusScan SMB Edition, which provides centrally managed virus protection for desktops and fileservers, and McAfee Active Virus Defense SMB Edition, which additionally provides virus and content protection for email. Both product suites leverage the award winning McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, which integrates next-generation anti-virus technology with elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single system security solution for PCs and servers. The suites are managed by McAfee ProtectionPilot and offer a simple, proactive approach to the deployment and ongoing management of threat protection, defending against malware, buffer overflow exploits and blended attacks. McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise is available as a separate purchase and is seamlessly managed and integrated by McAfee ProtectionPilot.

"We are very excited about McAfee ProtectionPilot's support for the Anti-Spyware Enterprise add-on module," said Errol Sigler, senior system administrator at Mercy Corps. "The graphical support in the dashboard and inclusion of a threat information monitor that automatically shows new emerging viruses of medium and higher importance as identified by McAfee AVERT, will give us the added benefit we need to ensure our systems are safe. We here at Mercy Corps know that this new addition will make an administrator's life a little easier."

"McAfee ProtectionPilot, within the McAfee SMB Editions, was designed for small to medium businesses, which are generally less equipped to prepare and defend against malware and unwanted programs," said Steve Crutchfield, director of product marketing at McAfee, Inc. "McAfee continues its commitment to its SMB customers, expanding the ease of use and deployment capability of McAfee ProtectionPilot to include the new McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise solution. Now we can offer a wider range of users the benefit of protecting their environments from the problem of potentially unwanted programs, such as adware and spyware."

McAfee has proactively equipped its reseller partners with the knowledge needed to support SMBs more effectively. The McAfee SMB Editions are available exclusively through McAfee channel partners, enabling resellers to offer a business-grade solution that is not only easy to use, but also helps to proactively protect their customers systems from malicious threats. Channel partners can now recommend McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise, as a complementary add-on to the McAfee SMB Editions, to help SMB customers incorporate an extra layer of protection against the problem of potentially unwanted programs.

McAfee ProtectionPilot reduces administration time through centralized deployment and management, helping to remove the guess work, time and resources involved in keeping systems up to date. The solution guides administrators through the mystery of deploying, monitoring and managing threat protection, keeping it in place and up-to-date. Automatic updates occur on an hourly basis, and are immediately deployed to all systems -- no interaction is required by the administrator. With McAfee ProtectionPilot, IT generalists can locate out-of-date systems and check for malware infection through an Interactive Security Dashboard, ensuring compliance and threat detections for all systems, groups or individuals.
