Although they indicated support would cease, Microsoft has issued two critical updates for their NT4 server software package.

Towards the end of last year, Microsoft indicated that support for the NT4 environment would no longer be available after December 2004. As indicated by The Inquirer, the software goliath had reasons for releasing NT4 updates:

"According to Microsoft, it is because its engineers had carried out the bulk of the work on fixing the vulnerabilities before the end of 2004 and so it had decided to release a security update for the operating system version as part of its security bulletin."

Microsoft indicated this is the last of such updates for NT4. Many believe Microsoft wants NT4 users to switch to another server software environment.

The updates correct flaws in NT4's ActiveX HTML help as well as a cursor and icon handling vulnerability.
