Symantec today announced the first book published by an external author for Symantec Press "Mapping Security: The Corporate Security Sourcebook For Today's Global Economy".

Mapping Security examines how technology has allowed businesses to grow internationally almost overnight, and the information security risks and challenges that accompany such rapid, multinational growth.

"I wrote this book based on the actual business experience of companies struggling to manage the risks of supply chains in Asia, customers in Europe, outsourcing in India, and extended workforces around the globe," said Patterson. "To succeed in business today, every part of the company must understand what rules, regulations, best practices and customs are in each country where the company operates. Mapping Security demystifies this global mosaic and presents the facts as clear and compelling business read designed for business executives who need to understand the risks and rewards of working around the globe."

Divided into three sections, the book lays out an approach business executives can take to develop the necessary precautions to secure their cyber infrastructure on an international basis. Section I, "Charting a Course," dispenses six key security principles to global business executives in business terms to ensure their cyber infrastructure is armored on an international basis.

Section II, "Mapping Security," provides localized details on best practices, regulations, security trends, and customs that are broken down by region, highlighting key countries and including comment from local experts from Europe to Africa. It offers American readers the "Mapping Security Index" that helps them decide which countries on each continent will prove to be strong multinational partners for information security in the current business environment.

The final section, "Whose Law Do I Break?," is a summation that ties the material together and helps companies develop custom security strategies and balance a risk profile against the myriad laws and regulations that different countries attach to corporate data. The book closes with a fact filled 70-page appendix of security and privacy resources specific to more than 50 countries around the world, making it a true source book for all professionals looking to do business abroad.
