McAfee announced that Tri-Service Infrastructure Management Program Office (TIMPO) will use the McAfee IntruShield IPS solution across multiple Military Health System Hospitals and Clinics.

McAfee IntruShield is part of a suite of network security products being deployed by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Charleston SPAWAR, in Charleston, S.C. It is being deployed to replace existing legacy intrusion detection technology. McAfee IntruShield was selected in a competitive bid process as the intrusion prevention solution provider for its ability to protect against known and zero-day security threats, and will be deployed at over 150 sites throughout the world. Today's announcement reflects revenue that was recognized by McAfee in the third quarter of 2004.

The move to deploy IntruShield's next-generation Intrusion Prevention Solution (IPS) technology represents a growing trend in the industry to move from reactive Intrusion Detection Solution (IDS) to proactive IPS technology. In a recent report from industry analyst firm IDC entitled "Worldwide Intrusion Detection and Prevention 2004-2008 Forecast and 2003 Vendor Shares: Introducing the FireDoor," an estimated 80% of organizations purchasing intrusion prevention solutions will be using the product to proactively block attacks. And, McAfee IntruShield is the first and only network IPS to earn the Evaluation Assurance Level 3 (EAL3) Certification through the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), proving that the technology withstood more rigorous third-party testing than its competition. When the deployment is completed, TIMPO will have hundreds of McAfee IntruShield sensors -- spanning the network core, perimeter and remote offices -- protecting the Military Health Systems' locations worldwide.

McAfee IntruShield helps organizations to proactively defend their IT security systems against known and unknown security threats while ensuring a seamless business operation across multiple locations around the world. Architected for real-time detection and prevention of network intrusions, IntruShield's next-generation technology delivers encrypted attack prevention, network IPS and internal network firewall integration in a single device, offering the most accurate and comprehensive protection available in the industry. With the technology's unique virtualization capabilities, IntruShield is able to offer security administrators a 'Virtual Perimeter' for both IPS and internal firewall capabilities, enabling highly customized and granular security policies for a dramatic reduction in false-positives, even at multi-gigabit speeds.

"The selection of McAfee IntruShield to protect the Military Health Affairs is yet another example of our commitment to providing government agencies with the best solutions to ensure network continuity, and represents a strong confidence in our security solutions," said Sandra Holland, regional vice president of federal sales at McAfee, Inc. "We remain steadfast in providing our government customers with rigorously tested, award-winning intrusion prevention technology to fully protect our country's critical infrastructure and systems."
