Citadel Security Software released a security policy template which allows administrators to configure their environment to limit exposure to new spyware and to remove existing spyware.

The Hercules Spyware Policy Template contains remedies which automate the spyware cleaning process for high priority threats.

The Hercules Spyware Policy Template includes a Spyware Inhibitor remedy which provides a browser lockdown capability to reduce exposure to spyware and adware. In addition the new template includes remedies that remove multiple spyware and adware components, which are installed with software applications such as KaZaa, DownloadWare, 180 Solutions, GAIN, Network Essentials and Comet Systems.

Removing Enterprise Spyware

With spyware contracted by simply visiting an infected Web site, the enterprise spyware problem has careened out of control. IDC estimates that 67% of all computers have some form of spyware -- in most cases, multiple instances. To form the basis of the new Spyware Policy Template, Citadel's Remediation Security Group determined that the majority of corporate machines impacted are infected with multiple types of spyware which are removed by the Hercules Spyware Policy Template. Current standalone spyware tools only clean and remove spyware at the desktop, making the machine-to-machine disinfection process arduous and costly for enterprises.

Research from Gartner states the first step in combating spyware is obtaining removal capabilities to reduce the risk of malicious software causing PC security breaches. Citadel delivers its Spyware Policy Template with specific remedies to scan the system, check for the presence of spyware and clean the device. Citadel's Remediation Security Group has applied a deep understanding of each spyware program and its application relationships to create remedies that both uninstall the spyware and also remove the remnant spyware traces that can re-infect the machine.

"Spyware is a productivity drain on both employees and administrators responsible for fielding help desk calls and running from PC to PC attempting to repair the damage," said Citadel CTO Carl Banzhof. "With the enterprise capabilities built into Hercules and the new Spyware Policy Template our customers will now have an enterprise class solution to combat this growing problem."

Existing Hercules customers will automatically receive the new Spyware Policy Template through Citadel's V-Flash update mechanism.
