NeWT Pro 2.1 Vunerability Scanner

Tenable Network Security released the NeWT Pro 2.1 vulnerability scanner with support for Windows and UNIX local checks.

In addition, Tenable continues to offer to the public a complimentary version, NeWT 2.1, which allows for vulnerability assessments of home and small office networks. NeWT's user base continues to grow and includes more than 25,000 worldwide deployments.

NeWT and NeWT Pro perform scanning of network servers, laptops, routers, firewalls, wireless access points and other devices. They include over 4,500 unique high-speed checks for buffer overflows, operating system discovery, web server application analysis, default usernames and passwords, mis-configured services, P2P file sharing, spyware, chat services and hosts infected with a variety of viruses and backdoors.

Both NeWT and NeWT Pro can be used to perform a patch level audit of any Windows or UNIX server. Supported operating systems include Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, RedHat, SuSE, AIX, Solaris, OS X and FreeBSD. In addition, the 2.1 release of NeWT and NeWT Pro includes updated scan policies for the 2004 release of the SANS 'Top 20' vulnerability checks and a new database policy to assist in tested of Oracle, MS SQL and MySQL servers.
