StoneGate Firewall and VPN version 2.5 introduces new features designed to address one of the most critical factors of today's corporate networks - the security of mobile users.
The use of company laptops whenever and wherever is a reality today. Broadband connections, WLANs and hotspots are available in hotels, airports, shopping malls and private homes; making connecting to the Internet easy and fast. The number of laptops and mobile users is very high - and constantly increasing - in most enterprises and organizations.
While enabling new ways of doing business, connecting to the Internet outside the corporate network also creates a set of new security concerns. Without proper protection people are exposed to many threats and when returning back to their corporate networks the infected laptops bring the problems inside the company. Already today, there are several examples of how the neglectful usage of laptops outside the office has caused serious security breaches.
"Today, mobility poses new challenges to the network security systems that have to be able to secure the laptops also on the road. On the other hand, at the same time, security systems and procedures cannot slow down or prevent any business activity. It has to be easy for the mobile users to work securely, otherwise they will not do it," said Markku Willgren, director, product marketing at Stonesoft.
"With StoneGate Firewall and VPN 2.5, Stonesoft introduces several new features that allow users to connect to the Internet more securely. The new solution enables administrators to force all mobile Internet traffic to go through the corporate firewall," explained Ilkka Hiidenheimo, CEO of Stonesoft Corp. "It means that all unencrypted traffic going in or out of the laptop is eliminated and the corporate security policy can be enforced to all traffic."
StoneGate Firewall and VPN 2.5 also contains features that make it easier for the users to connect to the corporate network via VPN without having to authenticate in each gateway individually.
