Symantec today announced its sponsorship of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Entrepreneurial Development Institute training center in San Jose, Calif.
In recognition of October National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Symantec will also begin offering workshops in the Entrepreneurial Development Institute that will focus on educating small businesses about issues related to Internet security and providing best practices for keeping their businesses protected against online threats. The first Symantec small business Internet security workshop will take place on Oct. 28, 2004.
National Cyber Security Awareness Month is an initiative of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), an organization dedicated to raising Internet security awareness nationwide. During the second week of October, the NCSA is emphasizing activities for educating small businesses on cyber security awareness and preparedness.
"Small businesses face the same type of online threats as large corporations -- from viruses, worms and Trojan horses to malicious hackers attempting to break into their systems," said Matthew Moynahan, vice president of consumer products and solutions, Symantec. "However, unlike large companies, small businesses often lack the resources to educate themselves about Internet security. Symantec's sponsorship of the Entrepreneurial Development Institute and our upcoming Internet security workshops underscore our commitment to providing small businesses with the tools and information they need to protect their critical digital assets."
The Entrepreneurial Development Institute is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art training center that offers executive management and technology training for small businesses. More than 100 workshops are conducted in the Entrepreneurial Development Institute every month. These workshops cover a variety of subjects, including training in the latest computer technology, management concepts, financial planning and marketing.
"The Entrepreneurial Development Institute is an important component of the SBA's efforts to empower small businesses and ensure their success," said Mark Quinn, district director for the San Francisco District Office of the SBA. "With Symantec's support, we will not only be able to continue to educate small businesses on an array of topics, but we'll also be able to expand our offerings with workshops on cyber security, a subject matter of growing interest to small businesses."
