Network Engines released their NS Series of firewall appliances, powered by Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004.
Unlike earlier generation firewall technology, the NS series provides the critical application inspection and content filtering functionality required to secure business applications from modern attacks. In addition, advanced VPN and web caching functionality are built in and can be used to help secure and control the flow of business-critical communications. Network Engines NS Series firewall appliances incorporate NEWS technology (Network Engines Web Server), a secure, web-based management system that enables deployment and maintenance tasks such as provisioning and remote system updates.
"If your business relies on Microsoft applications, you need an NS Series firewall appliance to protect your mission-critical assets," said John Curtis, president and CEO of Network Engines. "The NS Series firewall appliances are made possible by combining our expertise in developing appliances with Microsoft's leadership in software, resulting in the third-generation firewall solution that the market has been waiting for."
"Customers have asked us to extend the advanced protection, ease of use, and fast, secure access of ISA Server 2004 into an integrated hardware based solution," said Steve Brown, director of product management, security business and technology unit, Microsoft Corp. "We're incredibly excited to be working with a leading appliance vendor like Network Engines to help address the need of IT professionals by delivering an easy to deploy and maintain solution that protects them from the new generation of application-level threats."
"Application firewalls are one of the four paths to true network security that Gartner has identified. Full-featured application firewalls are now stepping up to meet the shortcomings of proxy-based firewalls and can form part of a defense-in-depth strategy for critical applications," said Greg Young, a research director with Gartner. "Gartner believes that organizations that rely only on proxy or stateful packet inspection will likely experience successful application layer attacks at twice the rate of organizations that use leading deep-packet inspection approaches. With the internal and application threat environment evolving so fast, protecting only the network edge and lower six layers is no longer an acceptable risk for most organizations."
"After just three days of testing the NS6300, I bought a second NS6300 to use as my perimeter firewall," said Paul Zocco, vice president of information systems at United Way of Connecticut, a Network Engines Beta Partner. "All of my network is now running on the NS6300 and it has completely replaced the Symantec firewall. The NEWS interface and automatic software updates set this firewall apart from others in the market. This is a great product that is up and running quickly with a very intuitive, easy to use management interface. I highly recommend it."
Attractive Opportunity for Resellers
"The availability of ISA 2004 on an appliance is the tool we need to bring ISA 2004 as a powerful Firewall solution to our clients," said Jeff Dimock, managing partner, infrastructure practice, at Intellinet, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. "Enhancing protection of Microsoft applications is critical to the business requirements of our clients. Providing a hardened, headless, manageable and upgradeable network security appliance, powered by Microsoft ISA 2004, allows us to focus on developing and implementing security and infrastructure consulting solutions that our clients demand."
"We've been looking forward to the availability of the Network Engines NS Firewall Appliances," said Bryan Vincent, President, at Bryan Vincent Associates, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. "Our customers have ongoing concerns regarding the security of their business-critical Microsoft assets. The ability to offer a fully featured ISA 2004 firewall solution that combines ease of implementation and maintenance with exceptional security and performance lets BVA invest its time and energy into addressing what clients want to achieve with ISA, versus dealing with the installation process itself."
