Scorecard Highlights Consul InSight Security Manager's Strength in Audit and Compliance and Foothold in Identity Management.

Consul risk management was among the select companies that Forrester invited to participate in its Security Event Management TechRankings. In the September 2004 Forrester Research report titled, "Scorecard Summary: Consul's Insight Security Manager 5.0," Vice President and Research Director Steve Hunt emphasizes that Consul InSight is an excellent product for enabling audits of compliance to policies, standards and regulations. He further discusses Consul's foresight in introducing a regulatory compliance focus to security event management (SEM). Hunt reports that Consul InSight's reporting features make it an optimal security event auditing and compliance reporting tool for compliance officers, security managers, internal auditors and incident response teams, who are most interested in people and information.

Forrester evaluated Consul Insight Security Manager 5.0 in the lab against approximately 200 criteria, including architecture and design, administration and reporting, and market presence. The Scorecard states that Consul bases its unique approach to audit and compliance reporting on the premise that security events must relate to a written policy or regulation. Hunt also asserts that Consul InSight's reporting approach allows "incident response teams and compliance officers to focus on policy compliance rather than get bogged down in mysterious network events." The Scorecard attributes part of Consul's market success to its partnership with BMC Software and to the "cult following" among its historic mainframe customers.

"Forrester's research offers pragmatic and forward-thinking advice about security technology to leading global companies. These companies are racing to protect their information and IT assets from a bombardment of new security threats and vulnerabilities, while at the same time comply with stringent regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA," said Joe Sander, president and CEO of Consul. "Companies must now demand a laser-like focus on who touches what critical information, and how these uses may violate corporate policy or external regulations. The Forrester Scorecard demonstrates InSight's pivotal role in compliance, security event auditing and identity and access management initiatives to deliver the first layer of defense for information protection."
