International (ASIS) has joined with the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) to help foster awareness of cyber security through educational outreach and public awareness.
National Cyber Security Awareness Month is a collaborative initiative of a broad array of industry, government, academic, nonprofit, and other organizations. With strong support from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Cyber Security Division, it will feature a series of events focused on topics of computer security.
An estimated 200 million Americans use the Internet in the U.S., including 45 percent through broadband connections. Approximately 23 million small businesses in the U.S.--representing 99.7 percent of all U.S. employers and employing 50.1 percent of the private workforce--increasingly rely on the Internet; nearly all public schools in the U.S. have Internet access, with about 80 percent of instructional rooms connected to the Internet.
Consumers, students, children, parents, small businesses, schools, educational institutions and other stakeholders will have access to tips, toolkits and other online resources to learn about computer security essentials: protection against viruses, worms, hacking, spyware, phishing, identity theft and more.
