McAfee outlined its strategy for secure content management for attendees at SANS Network Security 2004.

McAfee is highlighting its market-leading portfolio of secure content management solutions for small to large enterprises, including McAfee Managed Mail Protection, McAfee WebShield, McAfee GroupShield, McAfee SecurityShield, McAfee SpamKiller and McAfee PortalShield. These solutions consist of McAfee anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phishing and content filtering, delivering integrated, flexible technology to help organizations secure their in and outbound messaging traffic, optimize resources, increase productivity and prevent industry and company policy compromises.

McAfee secure content management solutions are channel friendly and available in both managed and self-managed offerings. They include layered content management protection that is installed at the Internet gateway, application server or e-mail server. The solutions provide layered protection for various market-leading applications, as well as integrated hardware and software appliances. McAfee secure content management solutions include:

-- McAfee Managed Mail Protection -- a completely integrated managed e-mail security service that proactively protects customers from unwanted spam, inappropriate content and virus-laden e-mails.

-- McAfee WebShield -- provides anti-virus protection, content scanning and, as part of an optional upgrade, anti-spam protection at the Internet gateway.

-- McAfee GroupShield -- provides comprehensive threat protection at the gateway, for the e-mail and other content entering and leaving Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003 and Lotus Domino environments.

-- McAfee SecurityShield -- combines best-of-breed anti-virus, anti-spam, and content filtering technology into a single integrated solution for Microsoft ISA Server 2003 and 2004 deployments.

-- McAfee SpamKiller -- delivers unmatched spam protection and performance for mail servers and appliances with an out-of-box highly accurate scoring system to determine whether a particular e-mail is spam.

-- McAfee PortalShield -- provides comprehensive content security for all documents, Web content, and document stores on the server, ensuring uninterrupted information access for users of the Microsoft SharePoint portal.

The rise of spam, sophisticated mass mailers, Potentially Unwanted Programs like spyware and adware and phishing schemes have fueled the need for solutions that secure the content entering and leaving the organization. Secure content management solutions consist of policy-based Internet management tools that manage Web content, messaging security, virus protection and malicious code. These solutions have become a necessity for organizations that need to address legal challenges and government regulation policies, productivity issues, resource optimization and internal policy enforcement. McAfee secure content management solutions include best-of-breed anti-virus, anti-spam and secure content technologies, providing the level of protection that enterprises need to ensure their messaging traffic entering and leaving their organizations is secure.

"It is important for today's secure content management solutions to provide protection for the key nuisance areas-anti-virus, spam and content filtering-ideally in a combined or integrated solution," said Brian Burke, research analyst with IDC. "McAfee provides a comprehensive set of secure content management solutions that addresses these requirements in single products or suites, making it convenient for companies of all sizes to implement."

"McAfee secure content management solutions go a step beyond traditional anti-virus, anti-spam or content filtering solutions by providing secure content using multiple approaches," said Steve Crutchfield, director of product marketing. "The integrated solutions provide protection from the edge of the network to key application servers and e-mail servers and they offer flexible policy management, a highly reliable architecture and best-of-breed technology components, which are manageable system wide."

Many of the McAfee secure content management solutions are managed centrally under a single console with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) or McAfee ProtectionPilot, providing software deployment, policy management and graphical reporting across all systems and desktops. McAfee ePO, designed for the enterprise user, and McAfee ProtectionPilot, designed for ease of use for SMBs, gives IT administrators the visibility they need to evaluate their policy's effectiveness, evaluate their network's weak points and to customize reports to fit their specific needs. With a single management infrastructure, IT administrators will save time and money through reduced deployment and training costs, reduced hardware investments and reduced policy redundancy.

Secure Content Management that Businesses Trust

"McAfee secure content management solutions have a user-friendly '1-2-3' out-of-the-box configuration process, which make them extremely easy-to-use and configure," said Shan Tilakumara, information technology director with Chapman Taylor. "McAfee WebShield appliance offers our business peace of mind in knowing that our in and outbound content is secure. It helps our IT department fulfill requirements to be compliant with security best practices, and addresses concerns of employee productivity, legal liability and network resources."

"Our company time is valuable, so we want to avoid the employee productivity issues that come with deleting spam every other minute of the day," said Steven Horne, manager of information systems for Perfect Equipment Company. "Outsourcing our e-mail security was a perfect solution, eliminating the need to focus our time or resources on managing virus or spam-infected e-mails. With McAfee Managed Mail Protection, we receive a comprehensive secure content management solution without having to purchase additional hardware or software, read manuals, or configure and update systems."

"The Miami-Dade County School District believes that incorporating a stringent security policy across its schools will help protect its systems and networks from the threat of today's next generation threats, such as viruses, worms and Trojans," said Debbie Karcher, executive officer of Information Technology Services at the Miami-Dade County School District. "McAfee secure content management solutions are built upon award winning McAfee anti-virus technology. We have already rolled out the McAfee solution to over 60,000 systems with the goal of reaching over 100,000 total systems. Since it is managed by McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, it has been very easy to deploy and manage."
