McAfee is supporting National Cyber Security Awareness Month with special offers for home users and small businesses.
Joining supporters from the US Department of Homeland Security, state and local governments, industry and academia, McAfee aims to raise awareness of cyber security challenges and solutions throughout October.
During National Cyber Security Awareness Month, McAfee will make available free informational resources and discounted products. From October 4-11, home users can purchase McAfee WebEssentials, a 2-in-1 solution featuring McAfee Personal Firewall Plus and McAfee VirusScan, for 25 percent off the regularly marked price. Throughout the month of October, small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) can also receive a complimentary 30-day online trial of the newly released e-mail security service, McAfee Managed Mail Protection, and receive free remote access capability with a subscription to McAfee Secure-1, an integrated firewall and desktop anti-virus managed service.
McAfee also will provide home users and SMBs with additional security resources, including free virus scanning and detection, prevention tips and free access to the "Am I Up to Date?" tool, designed to help users keep their McAfee security software up to date with the latest security patches, essential to protecting their systems from virus and malicious code threats.
Concentrating on home users, small businesses and education (K-12 and higher education) audiences, National Cyber Security Awareness Month focuses on empowering Americans to improve their computer security by providing practical tips and resources. The national initiative is organized by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a not-for-profit, public-private partnership focused on driving awareness and education of protection in an online world.
"As a founding supporter of the National Cyber Security Alliance and provider of industry-leading security solutions, we see first-hand the need to help users understand the cyber threats that exist and the resources available to protect themselves," said Douglas Sabo, director of government and community relations for McAfee, and a board member of the NCSA. "By supporting this national initiative and offering access to information, tips, resources and products, we hope more users will realize the critical nature of protecting their PCs and take active steps to secure their personal information online."
McAfee WebEssentials, designed for consumers, provides home users with optimal safety online -- either via dial-up or broadband connections -- and includes the award-winning security solutions McAfee VirusScan and McAfee Personal Firewall Plus. McAfee VirusScan provides advanced, real-time protection against viruses, mass-mailing worms, Trojans, and potentially unwanted programs such as spyware, adware and web dialers. McAfee Personal Firewall Plus fortifies the anti-virus protection and helps to safeguard users' online communications by proactively protecting the user's PC and personal data from hackers with advanced intrusion prevention technology.
McAfee Managed Mail Protection, designed for SMBs, is a hosted service by McAfee that quickly filters spam, inappropriate content and viruses away from a user's network without the hassle typically associated with e-mail security. Compatible with all major e-mail platforms, Managed Mail Protection requires no additional hardware, software or personnel resources to manage daily e-mail security operations. Users can try Managed Mail Protection for free and experience the advantages of having visibility reports track mail statistics as well as configure e-mail policies for greater security -- all available through McAfee's secured web portal.
McAfee Secure-1, also designed for SMBs, is based on the advanced desktop virus-scanning technology from McAfee's VirusScan ASaP, combined with the proven firewall and secured connectivity technology from Check Point. McAfee Secure-1 offers a complete, managed security solution that protects users with automatic anti-virus and firewall updates to provide the most current levels of protection. Ideal for organizations with limited IT resources, McAfee Secure-1 provides web-based management and graphical reporting. McAfee Secure-1 is a plug-n-play solution right out of the box, affordable and transparent to the user's existing network environment. For users that purchase Secure-1 during the month of October, McAfee will offer free Virtual Private Network access, providing secure communications across the Internet -- for remote users or businesses with multiple sites.
