AEP Systems today introduces the most robust version of AEP SureWare A-Gate, a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPN remote access appliance.

Key features in today's release include access to a much wider range of applications, a transparent, Java-based remote access component and enhanced end-point security. These features, along with high availability and load balancing, make SureWare A-Gate the best value for combined security, usability and price for businesses of all sizes.

"Usability and security are two hot SSL VPN topics and today's product release delivers on both with Single Sign On, access to more applications and enhanced end-point security," said Paul Healy, Senior A-Gate Product Manager. "SureWare A-Gate offers a complete feature set and is indisputably the best value for ease of use, security, features and price."

Today's release of SureWare A-Gate 3.1 includes the following features:

Access to More Applications

A-Gate Connect is a Java-based component that allows users to access a more extensive range of applications through an HTTPS connection without having to install a full, executable remote access client. A-Gate Connect allows access to client-server applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle and Peoplesoft. A-Gate Connect reduces the cost of deploying and maintaining application server systems, such as Citrix, by eliminating the need to install separate secure servers and secure ticketing authority servers. Citrix users can simply add a SureWare A-Gate appliance to their existing infrastructure to provide authenticated access to the network and SSL-based security for remote connectivity. Remote users working from desktop platforms that traditionally require a full IPSec client or leased line, such as MacOS, Linux, Unix and Windows 95/98, can now access non-Web-based applications over the Internet through A-Gate's on-demand Java client.

Improved Usability

SureWare A-Gate 3.1 allows users to access all of the systems available on the A-Gate with a single logon. Single Sign On cuts down administration, reduces help desk costs and dramatically simplifies traversal between multiple systems.

Enhanced Security

Significantly enhancing end-point security, A-Gate 3.1 supports client-side digital certificate authentication from both leading PKI providers and homegrown certificate authorities. Organizations that authenticate users with certificates add an extra layer of granularity for application and service access, allowing administrators and power users who authenticate with a certificate to use additional services.

AEP SureWare A-Gate 3.1 features include:

-- Desktop and 19" rack-mountable appliances

-- Out-of-the-box remote access for 50-1000 online users

-- Clientless, secure access from any Web browser to internal applications and Windows Terminal Services using A-Gate Anywhere

-- A-Gate Connect, a Java-based component for accessing a wider range of applications through an HTTPS connection without having to install a full, executable remote access client

-- Full client-server access from pre-configured laptops and PCs without excessive management of the client software on the remote PC using A-Gate Central

-- High availability and load balancing

-- No user-based or service-based licensing fees

-- Secures all communications using SSL, alleviating IPSec firewall traversal problems

-- Support for RADIUS groups

-- Support for digital certificates from leading PKI vendors including Betrusted, Entrust, Microsoft, RSA and Verisign

-- Supports RSA ClearTrust(TM) Single Sign On
