Quest Software today announced that InTrust version 8.0 is generally available.

InTrust helps organizations comply with external regulations and internal policies by securely collecting, storing and reporting on heterogeneous event log data. With compliance and user activity reports, multiple platform support, firewall-friendly data collection and enterprise scalability, InTrust is key to compliance efforts and to maintaining a secure organization. Version 8.0 includes significant new functionality, including UserTrack, which automatically tracks suspicious user and administrator activity in real time, and NotifyNow, offering the ability to send alerts to administrators through e-mail or to third-party monitoring tools.

"We found InTrust 8.0 attractive because it provides a single user interface to both policy compliance and real-time business-critical security event alerting," said Colin Harrison, principal project manager for Experian, a global information solutions company. Experian, winner of the U.K. Business of the Year award for 2003, was an early tester of InTrust version 8.0. "We look forward to using InTrust to watch for unexpected events -- such as privileged accounts being created outside of business hours. If something like that happens, you want to know why. It could be suspicious. If you set a rule with InTrust to look for that sort of thing, your service desk (or whoever else you designate) can be alerted in real time."

In addition to its value as a standalone product, InTrust 8.0 will help IT professionals leverage Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) by synchronizing events and alerts across Windows and heterogeneous platforms, including Solaris. The new InTrust Connector for MOM will be available later this year.

"Some security-related events are business-critical, and InTrust's UserTrack and NotifyNow technology give IT professionals the assurance that the security events they deem most important will be immediately visible," said Bill Evans, director of Windows solutions, Quest Software. "In addition, InTrust's data compression and unique two-tiered storage architecture bring efficiency to event log management for auditing, compliance and security."

The former InTrust version 7.1 will continue to be available from Quest Software under the name InTrust Express, designed for those who need event log management without real-time security event notification. InTrust Express supports the efficient long-term storage of event logs to meet regulatory compliance and audit requirements.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for InTrust 8.0 starts at $89 per workstation, with processor-based pricing for servers that begins at $449. Volume discounts are available.
