McAfee Increases Growth in the Consumer and SMB Marketplace by 55% over Last Year with Proven Online Security Business Solutions.
McAfee today announced that the total number of business and consumer desktops protected through its McAfee online security solutions has reached 7.4 million worldwide, an increase of approximately 55% over last year. With limited budgets and internal resources, McAfee online services continue to address the growing security needs of small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) and consumers by providing the most leading edge, cost-effective and automated solutions.
According to a recent worldwide anti-virus report released by leading IT market research and advisory firm IDC, McAfee managed online anti-virus services accounted for 57% of the managed service anti-virus share in 2003, making McAfee the worldwide leader in the managed service anti-virus market. "IT services will continue to grow as consumers and businesses attempt to concentrate on what they do best and rely on IT services to handle the complexity they cannot," said Brian Burke at IDC. "Companies and businesses in today's evolving landscape clearly see the advantages of using outside services and outsourcers, such as McAfee."
McAfee offers managed services for SMBs with VirusScan ASaP and the new McAfee Managed Mail Protection to provide automated desktop protection and automatic mail protection. To date, the McAfee Managed Services have detected more than 200 million viruses for McAfee customers. McAfee VirusScan ASaP, installed onto desktops and servers, currently protects over 2 million users worldwide with its automatic virus protection.
With McAfee VirusScan ASaP, SMBs can outsource the burden and cost of updating and maintaining anti-virus definitions. McAfee Managed Mail Protection is a new e-mail security service that proactively protects against unwanted spam and content, while it automatically filters out virus-laden attachments from a company's network. With a quick redirection of the Mail Exchange (MX) record to McAfee, businesses can secure their inbound and outbound SMTP communications to and from their network. Both managed services are deployed rapidly and provide 24x7 visibility into company-wide virus and spam protection levels with extensive Web-based reporting.
With easy to manage and leading edge risk prevention technology, McAfee online services for consumers currently protect more than 5.4 million subscribers worldwide. McAfee consumer and small and home office user solutions include McAfee VirusScan, McAfee SpamKiller, McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, McAfee Privacy Service, McAfee AntiSpyware and McAfee QuickClean. Customers who choose McAfee consumer services receive McAfee SecurityCenter, an innovative set of security tools to alert and inform users about real-time Internet threats. McAfee SecurityCenter allows users to quickly determine their vulnerability to threats and provides access to vital security information through the McAfee Virus Information Library and Worldwide VirusMap.
"McAfee's online security services help both small and medium sized businesses and consumers alleviate major security concerns and allow them to use the power of the Internet safely, securely and with confidence that they are protected," said Bill Kerrigan, senior vice president of consumer for McAfee, Inc. "Our goal is to make security as convenient and simple as possible. By delivering product updates and features automatically and securely over the Internet, we are addressing our customer's demands and needs head on, resulting in our rapid and ongoing growth in this space."
