IDG's Computerworld today announced the 30 winners of its third annual Innovative Technology Awards.
The awards program recognizes leading-edge technology that provides measurable business value to end-user organizations. The complete list of winning technologies, along with descriptions of end-user implementations, will appear in the September 13 issue of Computerworld and online at computerworld.com.
Thirty winners were honored in 12 technology categories. With security topping many IT agendas this year, the number of companies in this category accounts for 30% of the overall winners. The remaining winners were spread across hardware, mobile/wireless, Web site development, CRM, data management, application development, storage, networking, network management, enterprise systems and supply chain/ERP categories. Geographically, companies from California represented the forefront of innovation, comprising 13 of the 30 winners.
"Our award winners this year should be recognized for creating products that truly are revolutionary for their customers," said Don Tennant, editor in chief of Computerworld. "These companies have not only developed 'cool' products, but ones that solve real business problems and have produced measurable payback for customers."
Customer results achieved through working with the technology innovators include:
-- A hospital saving nearly 60% on storage area network (SAN) costs as a result of automating functions, discontinuing outsourcing, and lowering network expansion expenses;
-- An automotive parts retailer saving over $32,000 annually by increasing network capacity; and
-- An e-learning company saving over $1 million in Web conferencing by choosing a vendor that eliminated costly overage changes while increasing functionality.
In order to be considered for the awards program, vendors had to be nominated by IT end users that do not produce or sell technology. Nominees were surveyed by the judges regarding their technology innovations, and customer references were contacted for each vendor. A panel of outside experts and Computerworld editors then reviewed the surveys and chose winners from a pool of 270 nominations.
