VOD Security Solution Allows Full Protection of Media Content Throughout Its Distribution.

TVN Entertainment, a leading provider of on demand television programming, management and delivery solutions, and Widevine Technologies, the largest provider of content security solutions to the video over IP market and inventor of the Cypher Virtual SmartCard, today announced that the Widevine Cypher Suite will be used by TVN for secure transport of VOD assets.

TVN will use Widevine's Cypher Suite to provide persistent encryption of media from content provider to docking station. Widevine in turn would then be positioned to extend asset protection to the home for any video service provider. As a result of the agreement, TVN's affiliates will have the ability to protect content all the way from the provider to the consumer premise, an industry first. The move demonstrates the high importance Hollywood has placed on persistent encryption for its VOD release windows.

"Widevine's persistent encryption solution provides a high level of security that has been endorsed by content providers including studios and broadcasters," said Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine Technologies. "TVN will now have enhanced encryption architecture in place that will provide the capability to support all of their customer's content protection methodologies to the home."

"As we increasingly offer rapid turnaround of time-sensitive programming, earlier distribution windows of studio and broadcaster programming, and distribution opportunities with new video service providers, we realize that an added layer of asset protection is critical. The versatile and extensible encryption solution provided by Widevine Technologies will benefit not only our existing content partners, but encourage new content partners to embrace VOD," said Dom Stasi, TVN Chief Technology Officer. "Since we offer the most on demand content in the industry, we understand that security is paramount to our partners. This agreement demonstrates that TVN will continue to be a leader in secure content distribution."
