Wave Systems today announced the availability of Key Transfer Manager Enterprise Server AD, a server software solution designed to aid in the protection and recovery of critical enterprise personal computer data.

Key Transfer Manager (KTM) Enterprise Server AD is designed to address the IT manager's need to control the key archive and recovery process when implementing an enterprise-wide security solution using PCs conforming to the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) standard. Wave believes the primary benefit to IT managers is ensuring that critical protected data can be recovered, while other important benefits include reduced support costs, simplified administration, increased productivity and strengthened security.

KTM Enterprise Server AD is designed to work on all TCG-compliant secure personal computers. Product information is accessible from Wave's website. Wave's KTM Enterprise Server AD is now available for purchase from the following resellers: CSS Laboratories (USA); Envoy Data Corporation (USA); TechScaler, Inc. (USA); and SmartAxis (Southern Europe).

"We are seeing a high demand for solutions that enable the recovery of critical data," said Jeff Ciraulo, vice president of marketing, Envoy Data Corporation. "KTM Enterprise Server AD is designed to minimize risks associated with the loss of crucial information and increases operational efficiency. We believe it is a crucial component to implementing an enterprise-wide security solution."

"We are pleased to resell Wave Systems solutions, specifically the Key Transfer Manager Enterprise software. We believe this solution brings a compelling value to enterprise and business users for protection and recovery of critical information," said Siew Yeung, executive vice president, CSS Laboratories.

"By working with the industry leaders, we believe that the millions of trusted PCs that have shipped by the top PC original equipment manufacturers now need key management capability on an enterprise-wide basis," said Steven Sprague, Wave's president and CEO. "An IT administrator using KTM Enterprise Server AD to manage dozens of Trusted PCs - or thousands of Trusted PCs - could protect against the real possibility of data loss while saving time and money in administration and support by implementing this solution."

KTM Enterprise Server AD was developed to work with Wave's Trusted PC client solution, EMBASSY(R) Trust Suite (ETS), which conforms to the TCG specification and delivers a variety of PC-related security and productivity tasks, in an intuitive, easy-to-understand format.

Trusted PCs shipped by the computer industry are embedded with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chips specified by the TCG industry standards. Wave's client and server solutions work with TPM chips embedded in Trusted PCs. TPMs serve as a platform for secure services and applications.

With the TCG standard, user data is protected by keys stored within the TPM. These keys are very secure and provide the ability for a user to encrypt a file or folder or perform other secure enterprise tasks. However, these keys must be recoverable if the hardware fails or when there is a need to replicate a user's configuration on a new machine - otherwise the protected data is lost.

"We believe that Wave's Key Transfer Manager Enterprise Server AD addresses a significant need in the trusted computing market," said Nancy Sumrall, chairman, TCG Marketing Work Group. "While key recovery capability on individual PCs has been available from Wave and other vendors, this new server solution addresses the backup and migration of keys for enterprises."

With the proliferation of TPM-enabled Trusted PCs, the risk of serious data loss increases. If any of the PC hardware becomes corrupted, key recovery is unlikely and the protected and encrypted data - such as files, passwords, or email - is lost. With KTM Enterprise Server AD, security can be maintained and data integrity restored while ensuring proper recovery by an IT administrator. Additionally, transferring protected data to a replacement PC requires a streamlined enterprise-level process to reduce the burden on IT support that typically requires re-encrypting the data for the new system. Flexibility is achieved whereby administrative options are tailored to organizational policy allowing users to choose backup and recovery services either individually or according to organizational guidelines.

Wave's KTM Enterprise Server AD is compatible with Microsoft's Active Directory for user authentication and policy management. User group creation and role assignment are supported through Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 administration tools. The administrative interface is through a Microsoft Management Console snap-in application.

Wave's KTM Enterprise Server AD will be demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum, Sept. 7-9, 2004, Booth 115, Trusted Computing Group Community, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA.
