McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i Delivers Advanced System Protection Against Today's Newest Threats - Including Buffer-overflow Exploits and Blended Attacks.
McAfee today announced the availability of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, the industry's first next generation anti-virus solution to offer intrusion prevention capabilities. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i provides advanced and proactive security protection, helping IT administrators create a greater degree of control over their security infrastructure and reduce the total cost of ownership associated with the tracing and clean up of malware.
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i takes anti-virus protection to the next level, integrating elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single solution for PCs and file servers. This powerful combination delivers truly proactive protection from today's newest threats -- including buffer-overflow exploits and blended attacks -- and features advanced outbreak management responses to reduce the overall damage and cost of outbreaks. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i is managed by McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator and McAfee ProtectionPilot to provide a centralized approach to policy management, enforcement and reporting.
"McAfee has taken anti-virus protection to the next level with its ability to offer a multi-layered, single solution that incorporates elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology for maximum protection of PCs and servers," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president of infrastructure for IDC. "With McAfee VirusScan Enteprise 8.0i, small to large businesses will be better able to combat blended threats and buffer overflow exploits that are designed to get past point-solution security systems. This will give IT managers a greater degree of accuracy in detecting both known and unknown threats, such as Mydoom, Bagle, Nachi, Sasser, and SQL Slammer."
"McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i offers a proactive approach to enterprise security, helping us to reduce our need for point solutions and obtain a greater degree of control over our security infrastructure," said Ken Baker, network administrator at Trinity College of Florida. "With McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, we can narrow our "window of vulnerability" to react, install and test patches and install protective security measures, helping to automatically prevent against the newer security risks and reduce the high costs associated with outbreak incident response."
"McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i builds upon the McAfee Protection-in-Depth strategy, providing small to large customers with an innovative solution that provides a multi-layered defense against known and unknown malicious activity," said Steve Crutchfield, director of product marketing with McAfee, Inc. "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i enables businesses to shift from reactive security measures, to a more complete and proactive security approach by blocking and stopping attacks on PCs and servers."
In addition, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i recently achieved OPSEC (Open Platform for Security) certification from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. OPSEC is the industry's open, multi-vendor security framework that guarantees customers the broadest choice of best-of-breed integrated applications and deployment platforms that support Check Point's Perimeter, Internal and Web security solutions.
This certification supports the McAfee Trusted Connection Strategy, a comprehensive strategy for validating that systems connecting to the network are brought to compliance before they are allowed to connect. Through OPSEC certification, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i users running Check Point VPN-1 will now have the ability to perform Check Point Secure Configuration Verification (SCV) checks, a feature that helps to ensure that only securely configured systems are connected to the corporate network. This process ensures that all security systems, virus scanning engines and .DATs are up to date and enables medium to large businesses the ability to have greater control of their environments, resulting in the overall decrease of malicious network activity.
