Vernier's Trusted Network Design Eliminates Possibility of Vulnerability Exploits From Within Corporate Networks.

Vernier Networks today announced that its Adaptive Security Platform (ASP) protects enterprise networks operating on Cisco devices running Internetwork Operating System (IOS) and enabled for the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol from being exploited within the organization to launch a denial of service (DoS) attack. Vernier's Trusted Network Design, which is implemented by the Vernier Adaptive Security Platform, prevents desktops and other end-user devices from directly sending packets to routers and switches, eliminating the possibility of that exploit. All Vernier Networks customers running VNX software version 4 or later are immediately protected without additional software or signatures.

"This is neither the first nor the last OSPF vulnerability. This is yet further proof that organizations need a dedicated security layer that is decoupled from the core infrastructure to implement and enforce security countermeasures," said Doug Klein, chief technology officer at Vernier Networks. "By configuring the Vernier Control Server to allow only appropriate network devices and network administrators to address routers, you automatically remove the possibility of exploits from within the network."

Unlike other security solutions that require signature updates to protect against this threat which only reduce the probability of an attack, Vernier Networks removes the possibility of an attack entirely by blocking non-network devices from even addressing a router.

The Vernier Adaptive Security Platform provides five layers of network security, designed to provide enterprises with the most rigorous and stringent security controls for their wired and wireless networks. The Vernier ASP includes: Trusted Network Design, Trusted Network Admission, Trusted Network Defense, Trusted Network Outbreak Management and Trusted Network Remediation. These layers reduce the possibility of an attack, and if an attack occurs, resolve the attack immediately, while adapting policy to prevent future threats to the network. The result is an unprecedented level of network security and an assurance of network continuity.
