Google is set to begin operations in one of its research and development facilities located in Bangalore, the technology capital of India. This is the third R&D facility that Google owns outside of the US. The other two facilities are located in Switzerland and Japan.

The purpose of Google's Indian facility will be to research methods of data mining, data warehousing, business intelligence and knowledge management, as well as concentrating on India-specific technologies, according to Yahoo India News.

The facility is located in Bangalore's Software Technology Parks of India. The STPI houses many of India's technological businesses and offers satellite-linked data services to IT firms as well as incubating start-up companies.

Google's facility will be run by a 3 member team and will hire software engineers, programmers and computer scientists.

The R&D center is being hyped as Google's first fully operational engineering facility outside of the United States. Google has kept its India center quiet because of the possibility of negative reactions that would stem from outsourcing tech jobs to foreign countries.

B.V. Naidu, director of the STPI, stated, "the political backlash in the US over tech jobs moving to India in the wake of increasing outsourcing by global firms is understood to be one of the reasons for Google to keep its India plans under wraps."
