Google has always celebrated popular holidays by altering their logo's design to include something topical about the holiday that is being celebrated. Today is May 5, 2004, otherwise known as Cinco de Mayo, and Google's logo is noticeably missing any decoration to celebrate the Mexican holiday.

Google's celebratory logos have included Earth Day, Leap Year, The Birthday of Gaston Julia (which yielded an awesome fractal logo), and The Chinese New Year, just to name a few. Alas, there is nothing for Cinco de Mayo.

Cinco de Mayo, incorrectly called Mexican Independence Day, is the celebration of "the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862." The holiday has been adopted by the American public, who is always looking for a reason to party.

It comes as a surprise that Google did not commemorate the day with a Logo design. Perhaps they're too busy with their IPO?

Thanks to MexOnline.com for the information.
