In a move worthy of the RIAA, news giant Reuters announced it would begin tracking copyright violations of its content using Fast Search & Transfer's (FAST) software. FAST is a developer of enterprise search and real-time alerting technologies.

FAST will provide its Enterprise Search Platform for Reuters's Search Derivative Application (SDA) that will generate reports to help the company monitor the Internet for copyright infringements and improve the brand and content protection. Any violations are flagged and issued to Reuters.

In a statement that released by Reuters, Paul Hansford, global head of content quality, said, "it is important to know as much as we can about how Reuters' copyrighted news content is being used by our subscribers, as well as the general public."

Initial deployment is scheduled for mid-April, with full capability expected by this summer.
