This past Tuesday, Dell announced that it will be buying SecureWorks Inc, which specializes in information security services. This comes on the tail end of their acquisition of Compellent Technologies last month and their announced intent to acquire InSight One, which says a lot about how Dell is expanding and growing as a company. SecureWorks, which was founded in 1999, focuses on protection from internet threats for businesses and organizations worldwide. This protection falls into three main types of services: Managed Security, Counter Threat Unit Intelligence and Risk Consulting. Dell will no doubt use this acquisition, as it has used past acquisitions, to provide more services that are tightly integrated with their current offerings than can be offered through third-party software.

According to the official press release from Dell, the actual acquisition will happen in "early 2011" which could be tomorrow or could be a month away. One thing is for sure though, Dell is expressing excitement at the prospect of gaining SecureWorks. Peter Altabef, President of Dell Services, said "[w]e look forward to welcoming SecureWorks team members - who bring their passion and dedication to serving clients with best-in-class security services - to Dell and our clients." Michael Cote, CEO and Chairman of SecureWorks is just as excited to get to work with Dell, saying "I am confident that SecureWorks will flourish as part of the Dell Services organization and that our clients will continue to be well-served and well-protected by the services on which they rely."

This acquisition shows yet another step forward that Dell is taking in order to provide enhanced security to its corporate clients. With this being the third acquisition announced in a month's time, there is little doubt that they will continue on this course of expansion in the months to come.
