Straight from Sophos, there's good news regarding a security threat called Khobe: simply put, it isn't much of a menace at all. Headlines comparing it to an 8.0 earthquake or claiming that standard security measures are useless have little to no bearing on the reality of the situation.

Don't worry that an article on matousec.com talked about being able to bypass security software. Don't fret even if what's protecting your computer(s) right now is on matousec's list of 35 allegedly vulnerable products.
Paul Ducklin explained in a blog post, "[T]he Khobe 'attack' boils down to this: if you can write malware which already gets past Sophos's on-access virus blocker, and past Sophos's HIPS, then you may be able to use the Khobe code to bypass Sophos's HIPS - which, of course, you just bypassed anyway. Oh, and only if you are using Windows XP."
The same description applies where almost all other security products are concerned, too.
Obviously, this should come as good news to all of the people who bought into the Khobe hype. And now they - along with folks who didn't - may know to be a little more suspicious about threats discussed on the matousec site.
