Sophos is reporting two sensationalist, malware-carrying emails circulating cyberspace, one involving an explosion at a London nuclear facility and the other purporting to have a dirty Barack Obama video. As you might guess, both are bogus and carrying nasty surprises.

**UPDATE: Okay. Please stop emailing. :-) There is a London in Canada, in Ontario, and yes, there appears to be a nuclear facility there, too. Mea culpa.
Whoever wrote the email about the nuclear power station explosion email was strong on conspiracy theory disaster intrigue, but not so strong on geography. The subject line reads: Reply: A report on radiation contamination of Canada.
Yet, the explosion is said in the body of the email to have taken place in the suburbs of London, a long, long way from Canada. Perhaps recipients also unversed in world geography would not have suspicions raised from the get-go, and would also believe claims that the UK government is suppressing reports of the explosion in the media-which would be why you hadn't heard the news. The same government conspiracy is responsible for shutting down phone lines to prevent leakage.
Nicely crafted story, if you can get beyond the glaring geographical error, but Sophos says if a recipient downloads the zip file included purporting to have photos of the victims, they'll receive instead a spyware Trojan called Troj/Agent-HQE.
If you haven't seen that one, maybe you'll be treated with the Obama one, which carries an actual filthy video-the Democratic nominee noticeably missing from the action. The text reads:
Sensation!!! United States Senator for Illinois Barack Obama in 2007 was travel to Ukraine and have sex action with many ukrainian girls! You may view this private porno in a flash video. Download and view now. Please send this news to your friends!
Obama it's not right choice!!!
Again, if not bad geography, then bad English should tip you off in any spam event. Clicking on the provided link does pull up a nasty video for your enjoyment while providing the complete wrong kind of Trojan, called Mal/Hupig-D.
As always, it's a bad idea to download any attachment in an email unless you know the person and are expecting to receive it or it makes sense to receive it. If unsure, drop the sender (if you know them) a line and make sure they intend to send you a bogus sex tape.
