Meeting a seller in a dark and distant parking lot at 3 am with a large amount of cash to complete a transaction could be a really bad idea.

A better choice would be to see the item being purchased first, then going to the bank with the seller to complete the simple cash transaction, if the money will be a significant sum.
Online classifieds site Oodle opened a new Safety & Fraud Center to alert people to the possible bad things that could happen to the unwary consumer. As online classifieds continue to draw plenty of buyers, people should take a few simple steps at self-protection.
Oodle said making the transaction in a public place during the day, preferably with a friend accompanying you, will be a good step to take. Stick to cash rather than accepting other payment methods, which could be faked.
Also, people should not give out personally identifiable information to strangers. A cash transaction doesn't need to involve one's Social Security number or bank account information, for example.
More details and a forum on discussing online scams may be found on Oodle new safety page. Remember, daylight and public = good; darkness and seclusion with no witnesses = bad.
