The Mozilla Developer Center announced the availability of the milestone release of Firefox 3 Beta 3. As with any beta product, it's recommended for developers and testers, for putting it through its paces.
Lots of security fixes made it into the browser. Malware protection, antivirus integration in the download manager, and other updates add to improving the security experience.
Release notes for Firefox 3 noted the presence of one-click site info to quickly show who owns the site. Version checking for add-ons and plug-ins disables older versions of those when encountered.
Web forgery protection, new SSL error pages, and secure add-on updates were listed among the security features for the browser.
Firefox users should be pleased with performance improvements listed for the latest release. The lower memory footprint will be welcome, but repairs to over 350 memory leak issues and the capability to reduce entire classes of links through XPCOM collection make us even more enthused about Firefox 3 Beta 3.
The developers coined a new word in the discussion of richer personalization features. Called 'frecency', the updated browser uses a new algorithm based on site visit recency and frequency to help give users better results and more control over content accessed through Firefox.
