Security vendor F-Secure noted the news of the prosecution of the accused as their case made news. Police closed down their operation last year.
They didn't shut it down until well after the group had established themselves with at least three domains and a variety of prescription drugs made available for purchase since 2003. The suspects reportedly pulled in several million euros in ill-gotten gains.
F-Secure said the operation came crashing down after a post office cashier tipped off police. She became suspicious of the daily mailings by the same man every day of parcels to other countries. A search of items being mailed revealed the drugs.
Beware of fake Windows Update sites - F-Secure also revealed its discovery of a phony Windows Update site in the wild. The site appended cfm48.com to a Microsoft Update URL, and uses fast-flux DNS to send visitors to one of several IP addresses.
If someone installs the critical update advertised on the fake site, it will deliver a payload that resembles a typical Microsoft update file by name. It isn't, and likely contains the usual assortment of Trojans and other malicious files that will give remote access and control to a third party.
