The persistent malware pest returned in a volley of spam to thousands of email inboxes around the world.

Good old naughty pictures, the spammer's reliable default campaign. Trend Micro said the Storm worm reappeared through Christmas, offering the unwary two minutes of joy. Plus untold hours of undoing the damage.
This time, Storm returned as a link in a junk message. Click it, and a redirector sends the PC to a website with lots of Mrs. Clauses dressed in ways to keep Santa jolly. Ho ho ho indeed, especially when Storm climbs onboard the PC.
The SANS ISC saw the Storm worm appear in New Year's themed spam. That spam redirected the imprudent link clicker to an electronic greeting card.
This spam uses an assortment of subject and body text with New Year's messages. All of them go to the same malware-bearing website.
All of these messages should be deleted upon receipt, if one's software did not do so immediately. Despite the usefulness and cleverness of e-greeting cards, the numerous ways in which criminals abuse them make us extremely wary of opening them even when they purport to come from a familiar sender.
