Potential election campaign threats rated in the Symantec list of likely trends security pros will encounter in 2008.
Political campaigning involves fundraising efforts on a continual basis. Campaign supporters understand this just as the candidates do. That makes fundraising an appealing enticement for crooks who would love to grab a bunch of cash donations under the guise of a legitimate political site.

Symantec's Kevin Haley also cited other threats to mobile devices and virtual worlds as ones possibly ready to endanger more people through the coming year. JavaScript and convergence "on a uniform interpretation standard for scripting languages" will enable advanced web-based threats to happen.
Spam will persist too, as spammers continue to look for ways to get around antispam filters. The scourge of bot networks looks scary as well, with Haley suggesting machines compromised by bots could end up running phishing sites on behalf of the criminals controlling them.
