Malware attacks using YouTube and GeoCities as fronts for phishing scams have been spotted in the wild.

The booming popularity of online video has made YouTube a tempting face to put on criminal efforts in the past. Trend Micro noted the latest effort to scam people using a YouTube video as the bait.
Spam with a thumbnail of two intertwining limbs describes a video of "A touching tale of how two lovers found their heart." The criminals behind this fake video sharing message want to share a Trojan that mass emails the spam to more people.
Another scam involves Yahoo's web page hosting service, GeoCities. In the GeoCities example, Trend Micro anticipates Yahoo security pros will have their hands full with Storm worm-related activity.
"There are limited reports that the Storm worm may be spamming emails with links to a Geocities site. This was seen in the monitoring of the spam templates being sent via Storm communications to its botnets," said Trend Micro's Ivan Macalintal.
Criminals behind the Storm worm have disguised the malware as an "iPix plug-in." If downloaded, it drops a Trojan on the system that in turn grabs more malicious files from a remote address.
