A plea agreement by John Kenneth "acid/acidstorm" Schiefer for his role in cracking 250,000 PCs likely made him the first person indicted for wiretapping by botnet.

Schiefer could end up with a lot of time to think about his crimes, as he faces almost 60 years in prison for pleading guilty to wiretapping and fraud charges.
His history of hacking and computer mischief netted him adware commissions from hacked computers, web hosting purchased with compromised PayPal accounts, and the placement of bots and other malware on thousands of machines.
Schiefer's interview with Brian Krebs of the Washington Post noted how the accused once worked as a security pro, one with a long-time interest in computers and computing.
Now, Schiefer tells Krebs he's seen the error of his ways:
Schiefer said he regrets his actions, and hopes that the cooperation he has shown with law enforcement in the case so far will lighten his sentence.
"I don't think anyone should feel sorry for me," Schiefer said. "What I was doing was wrong [and] stupid, and I got caught."
It is now up to the court to decide just how long he will have to think about that in the federal penitentiary system.
