Several previously fixed items regressed to an unfixed state in Firefox 2.0.0.8, requiring Mozilla to quickly release a new version.

Firefox users may be surprised to see their browser of choice popup an announcement that a new update has been made to it. Firefox 2.0.0.8 only came out on October 18th, making a November 1st update well outside of their usual maintenance release cycle.
When Mozilla sees a security issue, they respond in nimble fashion to repair what needs to be patched. In the case of the latest update to 2.0.0.9, the needed fixes had to undo problems arising from the previous update.
"The 2.0.0.8 release fixed some 200 issues, but accidentally regressed a few things. Most users won't see any difference or experience any problems, and those 200 fixes make the 2.0.0.8 update very valuable, but you should never have to choose functionality over security," Mozilla said on their devnews blog last week.
The promised update has arrived, which should restore those fixes that had been regressed in 2.0.0.8. It's unfortunate that Mozilla needed to do this, as the developer community has a reputation of being far more attentive to detail, something that their fans consider a differentiator from Microsoft.
This is the kind of fix one expects to find slipping out of Redmond for Internet Explorer. On Firefox, it's a bit of a surprise.
