Search engines that can connect dangerous people with details on bomb-making should not be able to provide those results, according to the European Union's top security official.

EU Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini wants sites like Google to stop delivering search results for bomb and other terrorist-related queries to searchers. Frattini plans to propose this to the EU in November.
A Reuters report with Frattini's interview also noted that a meeting taking place today, at a European Security Research and Innovation Forum, has several representatives from Internet firms discussing the Internet and terrorist use of it.
Frattini does not believe censoring search results related to terrorist topics isn't an infringement on rights:
"Frankly speaking, instructing people to make a bomb has nothing to do with the freedom of expression, or the freedom of informing people.
"The right balance, in my view, is to give priority to the protection of absolute rights and, first of all, right to life."
Such an approach won't hinder academics and other researchers from looking up opinions, analysis, or historical information, according to Frattini. The censorship would only apply to material of use to those planning to harm others.
Remembering September 11th: The worst terrorist attack on US soil took place six years ago today. Gary Price at ResourceShelf has compiled a list of resources of audio, video, and online publications about the events of that terrible day.
