Detailed plans to cripple a pair of US aircraft carrier battle groups through electronic warfare are just part of China's ongoing attacks against targets in the US and other countries.
China Preps Cyber Attack On Carrier Groups
The persistent efforts by attackers in China to penetrate American cyber defenses reached a pinnacle with a June intrusion into the Pentagon's computer network. Plotters in Beijing want to do more than hit one network.
A report by the Times Online said plans obtained by the Pentagon show that Beijing wants the ability to attack carrier battle groups, and cripple financial and communications assets, through electronic warfare. It's not just the US that China wants to be able to defeat; they have plans for global dominance:
The blueprint for such an assault, drawn up by two hackers working for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), is part of an aggressive push by Beijing to achieve "electronic dominance" over each of its global rivals by 2050, particularly the US, Britain, Russia and South Korea.
A researcher cited by the Times Online said, "in many Chinese military manuals they identify the US as the country they are most likely to go to war with." Larry Wortzel wrote a US Army War College report detailing the Chinese threat.
His document noted how a couple of hackers employed by the Chinese military were able to study US and NATO military tactics from manuals. Their efforts resulted in a guide that can be distributed throughout their military forces.
This latest news comes on the heels of contaminated pet foods and lead-painted toys that have made their way from China to the US. Software firms and the entertainment industry have long complained of piracy in China. The report exposed one more way China could be undermining the US.
