George Hotz managed to unlock an iPhone so a T-Mobile SIM card would work in it and connect Apple's mobile phone product to that network.

Now he has parlayed his work, being the first among many energetic hackers trying to hack the iPhone, into a sweet ride for his freshman year at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The New York Daily News said Hotz has traded the hacked iPhone to CertiCell founder Terry Daidone for a trio of 8GB iPhones and a Nissan 350Z Roadster.
Hotz had planned to sell the historic iPhone on eBay. However, the auction attracted a number of bogus bids and prompted him to remove it from the site.
The cachet of the hacked iPhone proved irresistable for Daidone. Hotz announced the trade on his blog, and said he would give the iPhones to a trio of helpers.
One commenter on his blog did make an apt comment about the reality of a 17-year-old driving a Nissan 350Z. The insurance costs for the car could be pretty daunting. Hotz seems like someone who's going to profit well with his skills, so that bill probably won't be much of a concern for him for long.
