A couple of days after publishing the home page source code for Facebook, the bloggers behind Facebook Secrets revealed the source code for search functionality on the social networking site.
More Facebook Code Emerges
The newest post at Facebook Secrets shows the code in use when someone tries to search for another person on Facebook. It's bound to be as well-received by Facebook as the source code posting was over the past weekend.
The proud tradition of placing colorful comments inside one's programming code appears to have endured with Facebook's search code. This cheery snippet shows up about halfway through the page:
//Holy shit, is this the cleanest fucking frontend file you've ever seen?!
That's a judgment we'll have to leave to the PHP gurus out there. Meanwhile, Pete Cashmore at Mashable wondered how far Facebook Secrets will go:
It's another nightmare situation for Facebook, whose founders must be wondering just how much material the blog has stored up: perhaps we'll see a leak every few days if they don't shut this down. Whoever the Secrets blogger is, he also has immaculate timing: after revealing the original code at the weekend, he's chosen the dead of night US time to unveil his next trick.
Facebook Secrets has its blog on Google's Blogspot service. Despite indications from Facebook that they would demand the code be taken down, it doesn't seem as though they've asked Google to knock the blog off of their service.
