A large number of Blogspot blogs appeared in July, toting malicious JavaScript and sending visitors to some seriously undesirable content and malware.

Why bother trying to compromise blogs to entice people to visit malware sites when it's so easy to just churn out a bunch of spam blogs and wait for searchers to find them?
Chris Boyd at FaceTime's SpywareGuide blog said this has been the shift in tactics by the people who were putting redirects to their sites into compromised blogs. Hundreds of profiles on Blogspot were created in July to host spam blogs and pull in victims.
Some of the blogs in question sent browsers to hardcore content. Others sent people to equally objectionable content, with Zlob trojans awaiting the visitor.
Most of the redirects passed people along to Malware Alarm, a program that demands payment in exchange for removing non-existent infections. The software pops nag screens up regularly in an attempt to compel people to pay.
"We've notified Google, and as far as we can tell, they've already nuked every single example given above. As I mentioned earlier, there could well be other domains out there performing these redirects so a little vigilance may be called for over the next few weeks," Boyd said in the post.
