Overseas deployments force military personnel to use online banking, and criminals have tried to take advantage of that by hitting them with phishing attacks aimed at the institutions they use.

Scammers are attempting to deceive Armed Forces members with phishing attacks targeting the specific institutions they use for online banking. It's hard to go visit a bank in Baghdad, Kentucky, when someone is stationed in Baghdad, Iraq, forcing soldiers to use online options.
Security firm F-Secure noted in its review of bank keyloggers and phishing sites that one site, Bank of America Military, showed up on a website hosting a man in the middle phishing kit.
A man in the middle attack intercepts traffic going to a specific website. The most sophisticated ones pass the customer through to the legitimate site after capturing login details. Later, the credentials caught in the attack can be forwarded to the persons responsible for it.
As military missions are varied and ongoing, a substantial amount of time could pass between one banking login and the next. Between the two, the criminals can steal funds from the account, leaving the soldier the nightmare of dealing with the theft.
Bank of America Military said on its website that it does not solicit any personal data by email. Soldiers should be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls asking for personal data in order to prevent account closure or loss of online banking access.
Soldiers can refer to their ATM, debit, or credit cards for a legitimate phone number to contact the bank with their concerns. That would apply to any card-issuing financial institution.
