Defacements of NASA, government, military, and UC Berkeley websites have all taken place in the past week, prompted by the current Israel/Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon.

The Zone-H website recently reported on the defacements that took place. Websites run by NASA and other agencies have been frequent targets of attacks.

A Chilean cracking group called Byond Hackers Crew took credit for the defacement of a pair of NASA servers. Those machines had their home pages replaced with the picture of a young bombing victim's face and the message "No war."

Zone-H said the cracks were carried out through the use of a SQL injection attack. This attack gave the group access to usernames, passwords, and emails from NASA's index.

The information led them to an administrative area on the servers. After logging in as an administrator, the attackers swapped out the legitimate page with the defacement.

NASA has been the target of several attackers going after their sites, with a number of attacks taking place in just the last week. Some of them also maintain the "No war" theme.

NASA has not been the only federal agency receiving malicious attention. A handful of military and government sites have been defaced, including a House Representative's personal newsletter that was replaced with a message from "ALL Turkish And Muslim Hackers" with a Turkish flag in the background.

UC-Berkeley suffered the defacing of a number of its subdomains similar to the attacks on the NASA servers. Those pages displayed an anarchy symbol and the "No war" message in the "cyber-protest" by Byond Hackers.
