The Mozilla Corporation recommends users still on the 1.0 versions of the Firefox browser should update it to the latest release, 1.5.0.2.

Automated update notifications should be hitting current installations of Firefox within the next day or two, or users can obtain the new update by selecting the Check for Updates option under the Help menu.
Mozilla also released Firefox 1.0.8, and said it would be the last release of the 1.0 line. They would like to see those 1.0 users shift to the 1.5 version instead.
The new release of Firefox includes native support for new Macintosh computers with Intel Core processors, improvements for the Japanese locale, and fixes for security issues, common crashes, and performance, Mozilla said at its Developer Center website.
Mozilla repaired five critical security problems with the 1.5.0.2 release, and seven security issues in total. Some of the flaws also affect the Thunderbird email client, and Mozilla recommended that users not enable JavaScript in email. A patched version of Thunderbird should be available next week.
The Burning Edge website observed several bug-squashings by the Firefox developer team. Three of the bugs had caused memory leaks in Firefox, and that issue has been a complaint of several users.
Some crashes had occurred when loading Gmail or using the Yahoo Mail Beta in Firefox, but those are now believed to be fixed. Also, a garbage collection issue with JavaScript that may have been the trigger for other problems that crash Firefox has been repaired.
Mozilla, like Oracle, Apple, and numerous other software companies, made the release available around the time Microsoft released its monthly slate of patches. Microsoft gains so much attention with its "Patch Tuesday" releases that it tends to overshadow those of other companies.
That is unfortunate because the current update to Firefox represents an important release, and users who have not received their automatic update notification in 1.5 should go ahead and manually request the update.
