"The TV channel was forced to suspend broadcasting after attempts were made to break into Russia Today's computer network, raising suspicions of a virus," the news release said. "The channel will suspend broadcasting until technical faults have been fixed."
Today, the station went back on the air. Russia Today put out a news release today and said, ""Due to attempts to hack into the Russia Today computer system and our subsequent suspicions of viruses being present, the channel went off air until all bugs were removed."
Hackers are getting bolder, although cybercrime to news networks is nothing new. Earlier in the year, ABC News had virus problems and were forced to somewhat more archaic means of preparing news for the evening broadcasts.
Other news agencies have been hit as well. A news release wire service was also hacked and a number of releases were accessed, allowing certain unsavory elements to commit securities fraud.
As hackers get more adventurous, more and more businesses need to work on their cyber security. The news media is just one more avenue that is being hijacked and one can only assume it will happen again and eventually, some of the larger news agencies will be attacked and hard.
