Windows XP Update Problem
Mr. Holzman, I'm sure you're very busy, but I really need some assistance and would appreciate any you could give. I have a Windows XP Pro update problem: I go to the Windows Update link from Windows XP or type windowsupdate.microsoft.com into my web browser, the page is blank and IE shows "Done" in the bottom-left corner. Am I having a viral problem or is this something wrong with XP? If it's XP, how do I fix it without completely rebuilding the PC? Thanks in advance, M. K.

Undeleting Files / Windows XP Can't Initialize Driver
Hi, Carey. I work at a small private christian school where I am responsible for our website. Last Tuesday, I changed a page. When I got back to work on Thursday, the My Webs folder that is usually in My Documents was completely gone - along with my website files. I thought someone might have deleted it by mistake, but it was not in the recycle bin. I know I did not delete it. How could it just "disappear" without a trace? Is there a way to put it back?

Passwords in XP and Windows Logon UI Error Message
Hi There, I hope you can help me. Anytime I get a box on my screen asking if I would like Windows to remember the password for whatever I am dealing with and I click yes it never does, whether this is for my e-bay account or anything at all. Also if I am in e-bay and I have typed in a product to search for then surely the next time I type the same thing in the word should be finished for me, but it's not! I believe that this problem occurred when I downloaded a new connection kit for freeserve last year. I am no longer with freeserve however. Thank you very much P. G.

Windows Logon UI Error + Ad Aware & Spybot
Hello, I booted up my PC this morning and received an interesting little greeting that reads as follows: "Windows logon UI has encountered a problem and needed to close". It gave me the option to send a report to MS, which I selected to do so. The error continues to return immediately regardless of whatever selection I make. Other than having to move the annoying message box, the error doesn't appear to have hindered my ability to use my PC..... but how do I fix the problem? What is a Logon UI?

What's All the Fuss About Internet Cookies?
As if keeping your computer operating properly wasn't enough, advertisers on the Internet like to utilize it to do their bidding, too. They love it when your computer is fast, powerful, and responsive! They'll use as much of your computer and your Internet connection, which you unknowingly allow, hawking their wares and even attempting to scare you into purchasing their products.

Updating WinXP + Free Cell Help
I am having problems using Windows Update on Windows XP Home Edition. I noticed that Windows update was notifying me that Windows Security Update 823559 needed to be installed. It would install without problems. But the next time I booted up my P.C. Windows Update was giving me the same story. I used Windows update and found Windows SP1 update and tried to apply that as well. The Security update would fail with a message saying that the patch was not compatible with this version of Windows. I look at the Windows Update history log and find multiple failures for the 823559 patch and multiple successful updates for SP1 (which failed when installing - go figure).

Trouble With Task Scheduling
Carey: My wife has a windows xp system & I am having trouble scheduling any maintenance tasks to run automatically. Cookie Control and the Accessing of Sites
Carey, I have a cable modem that has 3 computers networked on it. On two of the computers, I loaded CookieCop 2. Over a period of time, certain web sites became unavailable to the computers that have CookieCop2 on them. The first was fool.com, followed by the financial section of yahoo, and then amazon.com. Here recently, I haven't been able to get onto ccbonline.com. The 3rd machine has never had CookieCop loaded on to it, so I can go to any of the above sites (this eliminated the router as a potential problem). I have removed CookieCop on one machine but it did not correct the problem. It still loads on machine 2 and it still will not connect Also I never set CookieCop up to block any of these sites. It appears there is a file or something on machine 1 and 2 that is keeping them from accessing these web sites. Any suggestions? Thanks, Marvin

DiskClean Dilemas
Dear Carey, I have a similar problem as the writer whose DiskClean was not working properly, but, in my case, the program locks up my CPU, even after I hit 'cancel' and the program ends - the CPU operates @ 100% and the O/S - WinXP Home - slows WAY down. The only way to recover is to reboot - which takes an awfully long time. I have tried your 'solution' even waiting all night to run the zip portion of the program - trouble is this is NOT the 1st time I have used 'DiskClean'. I even used 'sageset: 11, eliminated all options, but the program still tried to read the compressed programs and locked up the system. This indicates to me that 'DiskClean' has become corrupt and needs to be replaced. Is there a source for it? Please email me with answer. Thanks.

System Resource Solutions
Hi, Carey Thank you for the helpful suggestions about my problems with too little memory. I have a couple more questions for you....... A few months ago I added 64MB to boost my computer's memory to 96MB RAM. Looking at Performance Stats today I find that System Resources are 53% free. While that may have helped in improved performance (mostly faster), it hasn't helped any with the problem I have re the C: drive. Today I have 1.96GB capacity and 222MB free there. This is actually up a little ~ most of the time I find that I have about 5% to work with.. So, the first question for the day is how do I eliminate this problem? I have tried removing unused programs in the past and most of the time wound up with more problems, because some bit of information that was used by another program got taken out. Next question: how can I tell what not to eliminate? Hoping you can help. Low Resources? What can I do?
Hi Carey, I am having problems with my computer,  I have received this message a number of times: The system is dangerously low in resources.   There is not enough free memory to run this program. At the moment I am on the net and have word and outlook open and my system resources are very low, at 4% free.  I spoke to the people I bought the computer from because I am supposed to have 512ram, they assure me that I have plenty, and it must be a windows problem and that I have to reformat my harddrive. I am not that familiar with such things, so I thought I would search to find out why I was having this problem and came across your site.
