Dear Carey,
Thank you for the kind offer to help me. I have 2 problems:
1) I cannot install Norton System Works 2003Pro - I have several failed install attempts, and each time I follow Symantec's directions for manual uninstall, as it is never fully installed and functional. Machine is Dell Inspiron 7000, PII 366, 160MB RAM, Windows XP Pro
2) How do I make Windows Messenger 'go away' forever?

Hi Marty!
You will need to manually uninstall the Symantec product by clicking Start, then Run, then type Regedit. Go to the very first key listed in the left pane and do a search for SYMANTEC. Each time it finds something with the word Symantec, click Delete and then press F3. This is a tedius process and take quite some time. Remove all instances of the word Symantec from your registry. Once you have done that, close the registry and double-click My Computer and delete any Symantec or Norton named folders inside of c:Program Files and also erase them from c:Program FilesCommon Files.
Then try to install Norton SystemWorks again.
