the Sapphire worm – also known as Slammer and SQLExp – infected more
than 120,000 computers, overwhelming many corporate and service provider networks
and disrupting hundreds of thousands of systems worldwide.
Rackspace, the leader in managed hosting, had their 99.999% uptime
guarantee put to the test. Many of the 7,000 servers Rackspace hosts
were running SQL, the application targeted by the Slammer worm.
